JOIN OUR MONTHLY CHAMPAGNE SUBSCRIPTION

Champagne is one of the most exciting wine regions in the world today. Referred to as the “Third Wave” a new generation has taken the reigns and is producing some of the most exciting wines the region has ever seen. Champagne is no longer just a wine to celebrate with; it belongs at the table nightly. This Champagne subscription will give you an opportunity to discover some of the most exciting Champagnes today curated by SingleThread’s Wine Director, Rusty Rastello. Each package will include one to two bottles and will be accompanied by educational material to help you learn about the producers and where these handcrafted wines come from.

When it comes to a decision about what to drink this winter, no wine speaks loudest than Champagne, and Blanc de Blancs Champagnes, with all their delicacy, promote a subtle purity that delivers cheer to our palates and a sense of cozy satisfaction in our winter minds.

For your enjoyment, we have put together a package of a few of our favorite delicious sparkling wines from the famed Côte des Blancs region of Champagne, that while being from the same region, are two very different sips.

Le Mesnil, Grand Cru, Brut

What do you get when you connect one of the best importers in the states, with a quality-focused cooperative in what is considered by many, the best place to grow Chardonnay for Blanc de Blancs Champagne? An extremely pleasing wine at an honest price that brushes shoulders with some lofty priced wines from the same area, Salon and Krug Clos du Mesnil.

This legendary Grand Cru village is Le Mesnil-sur-Oger home to the ‘co-op’ Union des Propriétaires-Récoltants, or U.P.R., that was created in 1937. This company was formed post World War I out of survival but the current day can boast of having most of the best growers in the area under one roof. This allows the blending of perfect hand-selected parcels picked out by the importer Rare Wine Co. for the final cuvée. This wine delivers rich, luxurious, creamy notes as well as hints of refreshing minerality that is driven by the chalky soils from this region.

Suenen, Oiry, Cramant, Grand Cru, Extra Brut

As the landscape of Champagne changes with new blood entering the arena, one of the newer producers that stands head and shoulders above the rest is Aurelien Suenen. In 2009, Aurelien returned to his family’s estate from playing professional basketball after the unexpected loss of his father. The sheer pedigree of his vineyards has given him a platform head and shoulders above his peers which have put him at the top of the list of top new vignerons in Champagne. Farming contentiously with minimal intervention in the vineyard, Aurelien delicately guides winemaking into airy, yet incredibly complex sparkling wines with a lingering, haunting note on their long finish. He creates these wines with a deft hand, preferring energy over those Champagnes with clunky weightiness.

While all other producers blend Oiry fruit into a larger Champagne cuvée, Aurelien has set the bar high for this Grand Cru village being the only producer to make an Oiry bottle. Oiry is the lightest and nuanced of his lineup, he adds only a small dosage of 2 grams of sugar per liter, helping drive a persistent mineral backbone.

Packages will be available for pickup on the 15th of every month.
