Sonoma Spring Itinerary

Bodega Bay

As the days grow longer and the weather more tranquil, we are drawn outdoors. The simple pleasure of driving slowly along the Sonoma Coast affords gorgeous views and plenty of pull-over pitstops. A favorite is the view of the coast from Bodega Bay Trailhead. Whether this is your place to park and hike the meandering trail through sandy dunes, a simple rest stop for a snack, or to watch the sun slip below the horizon, the ample coast shows off its beauty here. Follow Highway 1 north and turn inland, stop and shop in Duncan's Mills and continue through the quiet village of Guerneville to find back roads leading to SingleThread in downtown Healdsburg.

Yellow Mustard Flowers

Fly into Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport, followed by the quick drive north to Healdsburg where bright yellow mustard flowers welcome you at every turn. A common cover crop alongside fava, oats, and peas, the delicate smell wafts through a car window on a warm afternoon.

A walk through the neighborhoods surrounding downtown Healdsburg  is a delight of fruiting citrus, elderberry, tulip magnolia, and bright pink flowering quince. Tasting rooms dot the streets encompassing Healdsburg's Plaza. Visit Idlewild Wines for Sam's line up of Peidmontese inspired varietals - the Arneis sips like spring blooms, or perhaps pop in to Cartograph Wines for Alan and Serena's clonal and vineyard select Pinot Noirs - there is sure to be a favorite among their many offerings. Both producers offer walk-in tastings for maximum spontaneity.

Pink Plum Blossom

A drive through Knight's and Alexander Valleys will bridge the gap between Napa and Sonoma, lending views of bright green grass-dappled hills quickly recovering from fires past. Mt. St. Helena towers in purple glory in the distance, as daffodils, golden poppy, pink plum blossom, and yellow puffs of acacia flowers line your curving drive on California's Highway 128.  Photo Cred: Haley Callahan
