'It was SingleThread's privilege and honor to host a dinner with two winemakers from a world apart on June 18th: Duncan Meyers from  Arnot-Roberts here in Healdsburg, and Mark Haisma from Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy. Despite the distance between the two, their wines have a similar passion and energy running throughout them that made tasting their wines side by side with our cuisine an incredibly interesting exercise in understanding the nuance of terroir and winemaking techniques.

We had some divergent comparisons, such as Arnot-Robert's vibrant rendition of Napa Valley Ribolla Gialla next to Mark's supremely elegant Marsanne/Roussanne blend from the Northern Rhône that each pulled out unique umami notes in our sashimi dish.  The most direct and perhaps most exciting comparisons were the Pinot Noirs, particulary the 2012 Coastlands Vineyard that Duncan and Nathan made from Ross Cobb's "grand cru" property out near the ocean, lined up with Mark's 2012 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru from magnums he carried over in suitcases.  While the terroir of each of these sites is so different, they both showed myriad savory notes of forest floor, shiitake and hay, with the Coastlands being more floral and the Bonnes Mares giving the full beautiful expression of rustic, earthy Burgundy." - Evan Hufford, Wine Director
